The Owlette Program is the foundation of Origami Owl®. Our Owlette Program teaches young girls and boys, youth ages 11-17, entrepreneurial and life skills. Being an Owlette or BRO (Boy Representing Origami Owl) builds confidence and gets them out of their comfort zone, while setting goals and getting recognized for their efforts. Our Owlettes and BROs are making a difference in the lives of others and their own.

And, we are so excited to announce the recipients of some special awards presented at The 2019 O2 Experience, as well as some updates to the Owlette Achievement Program.

We also added three, new, exclusive Charms to the Owlette Achievement Program for the 2019-2020 program period! Here’s the flyer with all the new Charms.

Owlette/BRO Force For Good Charm Winner

We received so many incredible submissions and ideas for potential Force For Good® Charms! We revealed the chosen, beautiful Charm at The O2 Experience and recognized Ethan Pierce for designing a “Mended Heart” Charm, which is a reminder to people that they can heal after a tragedy in their life. Ethan was inspired to sketch this Charm because he and his family witnessed the Las Vegas shooting tragedy. See Ethan’s beautiful sketch here.

One-hundred percent of the profits of the “Mended Heart” Force For Good Charm goes to Our Military Kids, an organization that supports children (ages 5-12th grade) of deployed National Guard and Reserve service members, as well as those of wounded veterans from all service branches, with grants that provide up to $300 for a chosen sport, art or other activity. Participation in these activities helps military children cope with stress and build self-confidence while their parents are recovering or serving overseas.

TWO Owlette Education Award Recipients

We want to support our Owlettes and BROs whose goals are to continue their education at a university or technical school once they graduate from high school. On stage at The 2019 O2 Experience, we presented MeKendra Sloan and Quentin Kurtz a $2,000 check to help cover their continuing education costs.

Congratulations to MeKendra and Quentin!

Here’s a little about why this Owlette and BRO were chosen!

MeKendra Sloan

“Before joining Origami Owl, MeKendra’s confidence was at an all-time low. She was bullied and experienced social anxiety. But, through the Owlette Program, MeKendra has blossomed and proclaims, ‘the support and positivity that comes from the Owlette Program is amazing!’

One of the greatest things about becoming an Owlette, says MeKendra, is ‘being a Force For Good.’ During the past year, she has created and gifted several Lockets to kids with cancer. She loves to gift the Charm she designed, which was selected for the Owlette Force For Good Charm at last year’s Convention, as well as pieces from the Empowerment Collection to remind others ‘that they matter.’ MeKendra truly believes, ‘No one deserves to feel hopeless and alone.’

MeKendra strives to ‘Empower {people} to make a difference in the lives of others,’ and to lead by example.

Even though MeKendra’s family has experienced financial setbacks this year, it hasn’t stopped her from working toward the goal of becoming a pediatric neo-natal nurse. MeKendra has already started to pursue her post-secondary education and is determined to finance it on her own.

We think her desire to help others shines through, and she is truly deserving of a little ‘hand up,’ and that is why we are delighted to award one of this year’s Owlette Education Awards to MeKendra Sloan!”

Quentin Kurtz

“Quentin’s ‘why’ for joining Origami Owl almost seven years ago was to raise $3,200 to pay for a trip to the National Scouting Jamboree. He realized that goal quickly… and still considers it an honor to help Customers tell their stories by sharing their memories of triumphs and struggles in their own Living Lockets®.

In the fall of 2013, Quentin, his mom, and a small group of other direct sales vendors, created an event in Northern Colorado to raise money for small charities in the area. They called their event the Quarter Auction. They are now in their sixth year of charitable fund raising and have raised $62,000 so far – in quarters!

Service to his community has always been a part of Quentin’s family life – not only with Origami Owl, but also with scouting. During the winter of 2017, he embarked on a Boy Scout Eagle Project to construct a pergola for a local church’s memory garden. ‘The skills I developed with Origami Owl,’ says Quentin, ‘helped me direct my team of youth and adult helpers to achieve this.’

Quentin’s next big goal is to pursue his passion in Theater Stage Management. For the past two years, he has been a part of Fort Collins High School Tower Theater Group, and he wants to study this at Ohio University in the fall.

We believe Quentin’s selfless ‘Force For Good’ deeds are deserving of recognition and some pay-back educational funding. As such, we are extremely pleased to do so by selecting him as one of this year’s Owlette Education Award recipients!”

Congratulations to our 2019 Youth Council Members

The Youth Council gives Owlettes and BROs the opportunity to serve their peers in the Owlette Program and provide a youthful perspective, which is important in developing a strong program. Youth Council members represent their fellow Owlettes and BROs while making a difference and gaining leadership skills.

Destination Designer Program: Post-Owlette Experience

Speaking of graduating Owlettes….we are extremely excited to announce our NEW! Destination Designer Program!

This program is for existing Owlettes and BROs who turn 18 and transition into Independent Designers. The program provides personalized support, throughout their first year of being an Independent Designer, to help guide their progression and start them off strong in their new role. The program is designed to help them achieve important milestones faster, and our Senior Field Development Specialist Chelsea Larson will be providing four (4) Zoom Calls (one per quarter) to coach recently graduated Owlettes and BROs during their first year as a Designer. These Zoom Calls will be held in August 2019, November 2019, February 2020 and May 2020. We’ll post the dates, one month prior, on the Designer calendar on your Back Office Dashboard.
