October Owlette Spotlight on Success

In October, these three Owlette teams not only took initiative in their businesses, they’re also making memories and growing even closer as a team!

Owlette William DeCoursey IV and his mom, Carmen, Executive Team Leader, have been working their Origami Owl business together since 2015.

How We Booked our Jewelry Bars® and Other Events in October

“We find a lot of our events through Facebook. It’s funny because since we are always posting about how we are at events on our social media page, we now have some of our friends that tag us on links to events looking for vendors! That’s awesome to see our friends see our posts and think about us when they see events pop up! Two of our events from October were from friend referrals!”

Role as an Owlette at Jewelry Bars and Other Events

My role is to do everything! {Just kidding, mom!} Well, I load and unload the truck, set up the table and jewelry, and talk to Customers. I’ll tell them the story about Origami Owl and show them my Locket. I’ll also help assist with their Lockets, answer any questions, and ring up and box their purchases.”

Additional Thoughts

“I know I still have a lot of obstacles to get through in business. I am kind of shy when it comes to video, which is something I need to work on. I’m still learning, but I feel like this business is for everyone. If I can pull it off, anyone can! You just have to have confidence in yourself. Get out your comfort zone and put yourself out there.”

Owlette Jocelyn Gordon and her mom, Susan, Director, have been working their Origami Owl business together for almost six years ( since Jocelyn was an Owlette-in-waiting!).

How We Booked our Jewelry Bars® and Other Events in October

“We book events by looking through groups on the Internet that are set up for vendors. We also do a lot of networking with other vendors in our town. If we see an event, or are doing an event, that needs another company, we always try and help the coordinator out by referring our vendor friends, so that in return, we hope that they will return the favor.”

Role as an Owlette at Jewelry Bars and Other Events

“Jocelyn helps with preparation, labels Take Out Menus and checks inventory. She also cleans up our display pieces before an event. When we get to an event, Jocelyn helps unload all the jewelry and set everything up. She has a keen eye for what goes together, so she sets up the Lockets and helps arrange the table. Her most important job is to engage with the Customers; that’s what she excels in. She’s really gained confidence over the years in starting conversations and really getting to know the Customer. Since Convention, she has also incorporated storytelling to Customers with each piece, which the Customers love! She was determined to sell our first Paws Dog Collar and Living Locket, so she handed out a Paws supplement with a dog treat attached to each dog owner that passed by. She drew them in with conversation and the proceeded to talk about the story of her favorite dog, showed them the Locket and each piece and what it meant. By the end of the day, she had sold our first Dog Collar and Locket. She mad mom very proud!”

Additional Thoughts

“Our goals for the holidays is to find at least one other Owlette team who we can mentor! We have several Jewelry Bars and events this season, so I know we can do it! We just need to put Jocelyn in charge of it, because she seems to always go for what she wants, and she usually gets it, too.”

Owlette Phoebe Davis and her mom, Melissa, Executive Team Manager, have been working their Origami Owl business together for over five years (since Phoebe was an Owlette-in-waiting!).

How We Booked our Jewelry Bars® and Other Events in October

“We usually do most of our business online and through social media, but in October, we used our chicken list and did personal reach-outs to book all our Jewelry Bars last month! My advice for Owlette teams is to show off your jewelry to all your friends! I wear my watch every day, and so many of my friends love it! I carry my business cards to school and give them out to everyone. I learned from my mom that doing one-on-one reach-outs works better than group messages. I also personally invited my closest friends and their moms to our holiday shop. They each RSVPed back, attended, and shopped for gifts for themselves and others. They also wore their new jewelry to school the next day and in return, more people were asking about it!”

Role as an Owlette at Jewelry Bars and Other Events

“I work right next to my mom helping people create their looks. I love suggesting Charms for Lockets and demonstrating how our jewelry works. When people ask if I really work with my mom, I tell them ‘yes!’ They can’t believe that I am almost 13 years old and working a job on top of school and swimming.”

What We Achieved in October

“Our team sponsored six new Designers and one Owlette team in October. We had Origami Owl Co-Founder Tyson Basha come to our meeting where the Owlettes participated. Our team, as a whole, had over 75 Jewelry Bars last month! Word got out to a local dog rescue from one of the guests at one of our Jewelry Bars and they contacted us for a fundraiser in November for the Paws Collection! My family fosters rescue dogs, so we are very big on animal rescue!”
