NEW, Annual Owlette Education Award
As we announced at the 2018 O2 Experience Convention, we want to support our Owlettes and BROs whose goals are to continue their education at a university or technical school once they graduate from high school. Two Owlette/BRO recipients will be selected to receive the Owlette Education Award. We will recognize these individuals on stage at the 2019 O2 Experience Convention, and they will each receive a check for $2,000 to help cover their continuing education costs.
Here’s what you need to know about the Owlette Education Award
Contest period: January 1, 2019 – March 31, 2019
- Must have been an Owlette/BRO for at least one year at the start of the contest period – January 1, 2019
- Must be in good standing, as determined by Origami Owl
- Must be a senior in high school and have not attended college at the start of the contest period
- Must be a “graduating Owlette/BRO” (will be graduating from high school in 2019)
- Attendance at the 2019 O2 Experience is not required for consideration, but strongly recommended, as there will be special on-stage recognition
Rules: Owlettes/BROs may enter the contest by submitting an essay with answers to the following questions, along with a photo, to Owlettes@OrigamiOwl.com.
- When did you join the Owlette Program? (month, day and year)
- Why should you be considered for the Owlette Education Award?
- What are your plans for the award if you are chosen?
- What have you learned from the Owlette Program both personally and professionally?
- How have you incorporated Origami Owl’s mission statement into your life?
Please also submit a photograph of yourself showcasing your involvement in the Owlette Program. You may also submit a video as part of your entry (optional).
Judging: The two Owlette Education Award recipients will be chosen by a panel of judges via an independent award committee outside of Origami Owl. The committee is looking for originality – so be creative! They will be judging on content, overall impact, demonstration of commitment to the Owlette Program and Origami Owl’s mission.
Parents or Legal Guardians: Please read the Owlette Education Award Contest Official Rules and sign the Affidavit of Parental Consent for your Owlette/BRO to be considered for the Owlette Education Award.
Two New Charms Created By Owlettes
We received so many touching submissions and ideas for potential Charms and decided to create TWO! We revealed these two beautiful Charms at The O2 Experience and recognized MeKendra Sloan for sketching a Flower with a pinwheel-like design of colors representing “different cancers and a crystal in the middle to represent the light in times of darkness.” Elizabeth Hendrickson and Isabella Weihbrecht both submitted two hands creating a heart to symbolize “O2 and how it brings together people of all races and backgrounds with everyone being equally loved.” The Force For Good Flower Charm will give back 100% of the profits to Camp Sunshine, a non-profit organization that covers the expenses of bringing children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to a safe, supportive, healing environment for a week of friendships and fun.
New “BRO Squad” Added
We have so many 11-to-17-year-old boys who’ve joined Origami Owl and want to belong to a brotherhood that feels current and fun. Owlette Council Member Jaden Saysanam suggested creating the “BRO Squad” and we couldn’t agree more! “BRO” stands for “Boys Representing Origami Owl.” Keep an eye out for BRO Squad-branded apparel and more to support this OWL-some group of guys!
Owlette Graduation: What’s Next?
When our Owlettes graduate from the program at age 18, they have the chance to continue their Origami Owl journey in several ways. Here’s a quick update on the new choices available to our graduating Owlettes:
Owlettes three options when they graduate from the Owlette Program:
- They may create a new Independent Designer account and will have the option to purchase a Starter Kit for only $49 for the new account (effective August 1, 2018), or they can create their own account without the Starter Kit (the Starter Kit is optional).
- The account on which they were listed as an Owlette/Co-Applicant may be transferred to them by the parent/legal guardian with whom they were working. (This option is for those Owlettes whose parent/legal guardian will separate from the account and the Owlette will become the Mentor.)
- If they prefer to become an Independent Designer under the same account, the account must be converted to an LLC or other form of business entity.
Owlette Achievement Program
August 1, 2018 – April 30, 2019
The Owlette Program is committed to living out the pillars of the Origami Owl mission: to be a Force For Good®; to love, inspire and motivate people of all ages to reach their dreams and empower them to make a difference in the lives of others. The four pillars that form the foundation of the Owlette experience are: sales, sponsoring, personal development and being a Force For Good. This new achievement program is kind of like the Girl Scouts program; it starts the moment someone becomes an Owlette, and they will then have the opportunity to earn Charms throughout every year they are in the Owlette Program. We will be adding new Charms to achieve each year. The first Charm they get is their Owlette Charm and the final Charm will be their Graduation Cap. For each pillar of the business and mission that’s achieved during the year, Owlettes will earn an exclusive piece of jewelry to include in a special look.
Please note, these recognition items will be awarded every year on stage at The O2 Experience. Those who are unable to attend will receive the items in the mail following the event.
