Every year, Origami Owl® asks for touching stories of individuals or families in need of receiving a little “sparkle” back in their lives through our annual Live Sparkly® “Share the Sparkle” campaign.
Our Designers came through, and our 2019 nominees were so deserving.
At the O2 L.E.A.D. Empowerment Summit, Origami Owl Co-Founders Bella Weems-Lambert, Chrissy Weems, Tyson Basha and Shawn Maxwell took to the stage to share the story who received the most votes.
And the 2019 Live Sparkly “Share the Sparkle” Campaign Recipients Are…
Note: A big thank you to Dave & Busters and Modern Corp Auto Sales in Ft. Myers, Florida for making this day special for the Machado family so they could commemorate their parents.
How You Gave Back With Live Sparkly
“That was because of you guys,” shared Origami Owl Co-Founder Bella Weems-Lambert. “We feel so blessed we could have had that experience with them. It’s unbelievable what that family has been through. Being able to bring a little light and hope into their lives is so special.”
Gratefully, Origami Owl’s Designers sold so much Live Sparkly Multi-colored Swarovski Stardust and Live Sparkly Force For Good® looks from past promotions that we were also able to give back to the other three Live Sparkly nominees!
Origami Owl gifted checks to each of the following families to help bring a little sparkle back into their lives. Read their stories:
- $3,000 check to the Nuñez Family – nominated by Designer Julissa Schuster
Just over a year ago, Joseph Nunez and his family got the news. B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. After a barrage of tests and no answers from doctors, a final test revealed that the healthy, football-playing teen was suffering from ongoing pain because of the aggressive cancer. For six months, he endured chemotherapy treatments targeting his brain and spine and now he’s maintaining the treatment with monthly infusions and surgeries. Now 16, his leukemia is in remission, but the potential side effects from these therapies are ongoing. He still has more than two years left of the chemo treatments. To keep up with his care, Claudette, Joseph’s mother quit her job and her daughter Kaylin dropped out of high school to take care of the younger siblings, ages 2, 3 and 4. The family has struggled to keep up on their monthly rent, utilities and living expenses. They recently discovered that their apartment has mold, the children are constantly sick but they do not have the money to move to another place. Julissa hopes to help lift some of the family’s burden by helping take care of some outstanding bills so they can free up the money they need to move to a healthier apartment.
- $3,000 check to the Raffone Family – nominated by Designer Shelley Licknack
Every day is a gift – and James Raffone (Jamesy), age 10 and his family embrace each and every day. Diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a fatal pediatric and progressive disorder that leads to muscular degeneration and weakness in the muscles, Jamesy’s heart is now afflicted. With mobility worsening and his ability to walk decreasing, doctors predict Jamesy will become wheelchair-bound by age 12 and likely quadriplegic by age 15. Most boys with this severe form of muscular dystrophy will not survive beyond their early 20’s. Jamesy loves to play video games and his family spends every moment of their time trying to find a cure for the disease. Jim, Jamesy’s dad, created a non-profit called “JAR Of Hope” to raise awareness and funds to support research aimed at finding a cure and preventing others from facing their same heartbreaking reality. Shelley’s wish is to give this entire family a day of love where they do not have to think about bills and worries and simply focus on “wants” instead of “needs.” Jamesy has two loving sisters, Julia, 15, and Marianna, 16. Laura, Jamey’s mom, pulls the family together to make every day special in the Raffone household.
- $7,000 check to Alyssa Nolan-Cain (and Tiny Homes) – nominated by Designers Lacey Adelmann and Barbara Gomes (it costs $7,000 to build one Tiny Home)
The Camp Fire of November 8, 2018 in Northern California “came from out of nowhere” and destroyed 18,000 structures, killing 86 people and leaving 42,000 people homeless and jobless in a 24-hour time frame. But it wasn’t the charred landscape in the communities that left Alyssa Nolan-Cain, 34, a single mother of three young children, devastated. It was watching so many elderly and underinsured individuals forced to live in tents and their cars after losing literally everything. Alyssa, who had no construction experience and works a full-time job, knew she had to do more. She began researching and watching YouTube videos on how to build tiny homes. She personally built and funded the first tiny home in January of 2019 and gifted it to a survivor and her daughter in March 2019. She decided to reach out to the community and began collecting donations to build additional homes for victims of the fires. Since starting her “Tiny Homes for Camp Fire Survivors” organization, Alyssa has raised enough to build 10 tiny homes, with each costing approximately $7,000 to complete. The actual building of each home is completed through community volunteers; other times, Alyssa is the only one building the home. Alyssa has a waiting list of 483 individuals and families who still do not have a place to call home a year later, so she is determined to keep going. Her hope is to fulfill the needs of these families as quickly as possible.
Origami Owl Co-Founder Chrissy Weems recently went to California to help build a Tiny Home and experience the organization for herself.
Watch this powerful story.
All funds raised from our Live Sparkly Multi-colored Swarovski® Stardust profits in 2020 will benefit the next giveback campaign! Keep sharing and stay tuned for details on when you can nominate someone for the fifth annual Live Sparkly “Share the Sparkle” campaign.

At the 2020 L.E.A.D. Summit, Origami Owl® Co-Founders Bella Weems-Lambert and Chrissy Weems shared some OWL-mazing news about the Owlette Program – a new name!
The Owlette Program is now the…Young Entrepreneurs Program!
“I’m so happy that we’re making this name change,” shares Senior Director, Special Sales Programs & Recognition Yvette Torres-Dickson. “We believe it’ll help with clarity and simplicity and invite more people to join our program. It’ll help people who aren’t familiar with Origami Owl and our program know exactly what it is – young people learning how to be young entrepreneurs and run a business.”
So, when you’re reaching out to potential New Designers and Owlette/BRO teams about Origami Owl, they’ll know exactly what the program is – just by hearing its name!
What isn’t changing? The entrepreneurial and life skills young girls (Owlettes) and boys (BROs – “Boys Representing Origami Owl”), youth ages 11-17, will gain from the program!
The Young Entrepreneurs Program will continue to be the foundation of Origami Owl, where Owlettes and BROs gain confidence and get out of their comfort zones, all while setting goals, getting recognized for their efforts, and continuing to make a difference in the lives of others.
Congratulations 2020 Young Entrepreneurs Council Members
The Young Entrepreneurs Council (formally the Youth Council) gives Owlettes and BROs the opportunity to serve their peers in the Young Entrepreneurs Program and provide a youthful perspective, which is important in developing a strong program. Young Entrepreneurs Council members represent their fellow Owlettes and BROs, while making a difference and gaining leadership skills.
Thank you to all the Owlettes, BROs and Alumni who sent in their submissions to participate in the Young Entrepreneurs Council! The Young Entrepreneurs Council is a one-year term, so we highly encourage those who weren’t selected this year to try again next year!
We’re so proud of this year’s Young Entrepreneurs Council members and know they’re going to make a positive impact on the Young Entrepreneurs Program!
Congratulations to our 2020 Young Entrepreneurs Council:
Stay tuned for the Hoot recognition email February 14 for more about these impressive members!

What This Means For Existing Rewards Programs
The You Matter Rewards Program was created with simplicity in mind! So, rewards will now be under ONE program, no matter if you’re a New Designer or a seasoned one. That means our Ready Set Soar Program and Everybody Matters Programs will conclude January 31, 2020, the final day to qualify with that program.
Good news! For New Designers who joined in November 2019, December 2019 and January 2020, we are honoring the Ready Set Soar Rewards Program! For New Designers who joined in November, your final month of Ready Set Soar will be February; for December, your final month will be March; for January Designers, yours will wrap up in April. That means you get to earn free product credit AND bank You Matter Rewards Points at the same time. Talk about double-dipping!
This new You Matter Rewards Program will replace the rewards currently offered when you achieve Charm of the Month, Storybuilder, Dreambuilder, Businessbuilder or Successbuilder. With the new program, the Designer Exclusive look will be discontinued on a monthly basis, but we will bring it back for special, future sponsoring opportunities.
We know you love getting the monthly, exclusive Charms, but we wanted to give more people the chance to get them and support your O2 business. Announced at LEAD, our team is working on a new subscription program called “Collectors Club,” which will replace our existing Charm of the Month Club, but better! Not only will this program be great for all Designers to enjoy surprise, exclusive Charms and jewelry on a monthly basis, but your Customers will be able to subscribe and enjoy a monthly surprise, too! We’ll share more in the coming months about this new program.
For those who generate 250 PV in a month, you will still enjoy the same Career Plan benefits of Storybuilder – an increased commission rate and qualify for potential Customer leads. You’ll still see the term “Storybuilder” as it relates to the Career Plan in the meantime, but we will update that language in the coming months.
Here are some helpful flyers for you to save and refer to – we’ve also added them to your Back Office under Designer Resources > Designer Library and your My O2 Connection app under “Designer Resource PDFs.”

How O2 leaders gave back throughout Arizona in one day + the O2 Vision in 2020
Nearly 400 Origami Owl® leaders came together in Phoenix to experience incredible training, community and fun at our O2 L.E.A.D. Summit.
What they didn’t know?
The first half of the first day was all about getting out and serving the community!
Origami Owl’s mission is to be a Force For Good®; to love, inspire + motivate people of all ages to reach their dreams and empower them to make a difference in the lives of others.
We put our mission into action by spreading out all over the Valley of the Sun on Friday, January 24, heading to:
Origami Owl® Co-Founder Chrissy Weems says the intention of the inspirational activity was to get out and live the Origami Owl mission.l
“I feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to create a bigger impact in our community,” she shared.”To say that I am humbled beyond belief is an understatement. We’ve made such an impact in so many areas in one day in Phoenix, Arizona.”
What the Experience Was Like
Origami Owl Designers were initially surprised, but thrilled to give back. They loaded buses not knowing where they were heading, and they served.
“Today we had the opportunity to share what we love and be a force for good with an amazing group of women at Maggie’s Place. Maggie’s Place is a place where single mom and benefit from support and help. It was an overwhelming experience and we are incredibly thankful that they welcomed us with open arms and the smiles on their faces made each locket made even more special.” – Alba Saenz, Director, attended the give back at Maggie’s Place
“It felt really good to do something that was going to help so many people. We boxed 500 pounds of frozen chicken and put it on trays in the fridge. That 500 pounds was for ONE dinner. Thank you, Origami Owl, for doing this for us.” -Janice Tarquin, Executive Team Leader, attended the giveback at St. Vincent de Paul
“I was so grateful for the opportunity to come do this. I try to do something regularly when I go around Paradise and the Chico area to support people displaced by the fires. I love doing this!” – Barbara Gomes, Senior Team Manager, attended the give back for Can You Spare a Story at the CASS center
“This is just one example of how Origami Owl is unlike any other company – who else starts a Leadership Summit by completing a Force for Good initiative?!? 💗💗💗 So excited to be able to do this!!!!” – Erin Zapata, Director, attended the give back at Feed My Starving Children
“What an amazing morning! Thank you for the opportunity to represent Origami Owl and serve the community by putting together food boxes for the elderly. My heart is overflowing.” – Sherry Rosen, attended the give back at St. Mary’s Food Bank
